The FDA has announced today that it “does not intend to take enforcement action against pharmacies that compound hydroxyprogesterone caproate”. The-Rx’s the maker of Makena had previously sent “cease and desist” letters to pharmacies compounding this medication.
This is good news for patients and hopefully an important step towards a more reasonable price for this very important medication.
Essure is a permanent birth control procedure that works with your body to create a natural barrier against pregnancy. This gentle procedure can be performed in our office located in Jacksonville Beach.
The Essure procedure is permanent and is NOT reversible. Therefore, you should be sure you do not want children in the future.
Essure offers women what no birth control ever has
No surgery, burning or anesthesia
No hormones
No slowing down to recover
Performed in less than 10 minutes
Peace of mind – your doctor can confirm when you can rely on Essure for birth control
Trusted by hundreds of thousands of women and doctors for over five years
About the Procedure
Unlike other permanent birth control, the Essure procedure does not require cutting into the body or the use of radiofrequency energy to burn the fallopian tubes. Instead, an Essure trained doctor inserts soft, flexible inserts through the body’s natural pathways (vagina, cervix, and uterus) and into your fallopian tubes. The very tip of the device remains outside the fallopian tube, which provides you and your doctor with immediate visual confirmation of placement.
During the 3 months following the procedure, your body and the inserts work together to form a natural barrier that prevents sperm from reaching the egg. During this period, you must continue using another form of birth control.
After three months, it’s time to get an Essure Confirmation Test to verify you’re protected from the worries of unplanned pregnancy. The test uses a dye and special type of x-ray to ensure both that the inserts are in place and that the fallopian tubes are completely blocked.

Washington, DC — The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (The College), along with the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, is urging Ther-Rx Corporation to reconsider its pricing of Makena™. Makena is the first FDA-approved medication to help prevent preterm birth in certain high-risk pregnant women. The College argues that the extremely high cost of Makena™ will hinder access and affordability to this treatment for both insured and uninsured patients.
If during your period you feel restricted from everyday activities, if you’re constantly worried about embarrassing accidents, or you feel rundown and exhausted from the physical strain, then you may be suffering from abnormally heavy menstrual bleeding.
One in five women suffer from heavy periods. Of those, less than 15% seek treatment. Many do not think it is a treatable condition. Others believe that the only treatment options are a hysterectomy or the use of hormones. Today patients have another option for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding: endometrial ablation.
5 Minutes to Freedom
Novasure is a one-time, five-minute procedure that is completed in the privacy and comfort of our office located in Jacksonville Beach. The endometrial ablation procedure has been proven to reduce heavy bleeding to normal levels and in some cases completely eliminate periods.
Here are a few questions to review with your doctor if you are considering a Novasure endometrial ablation treatment:
Does your period affect your quality of life?
Are you bothered by the amount you’re bleeding or the pain associated with it?
Does your period make you feel depressed, tired, or moody?
Would you notice an improvement in your quality of life if your period was decreased or eliminated?
If you answered affirmatively, schedule an appointment with one of our doctors at BeachesOBGYN.
